Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffAugust 10, 2013Archivarius 3000 is a simple program that allows users to search their computers, removable drives, and networks for documents. Although it works just fine, many users will likely find that it's not a major improvement over the search functionality that is built into Windows. The program starts by creating an index of all the documents stored in the selected location. This takes a few minutes but isn't terribly time-consuming; our My Documents was indexed in about four minutes. There are many customization options for indexes; users can specify languages, document types, encodings, and much more. Once the index has been created, users can then search for documents using Archivarius 3000. The query builder lets users design searches that include any words, all words, exact phrases, words to exclude, and partial words. The results interface is split into two panes, with the left showing a preview of the search results and the right showing the full text of the currently selected document. Searching with Archivarius 3000 was quick, and we liked the way it handled search results. The program's built-in Help file could have been a little more detailed, but it was adequate. Overall, we liked Archivarius 3000; although much of what it does can be done from within Windows without additional software, it offers enough extra functionality to be useful with more challenging searches.Archivarius 3000 has a 30-day trial period. It installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.
